ITT people who have never seen Dances With Wolves.

I thought i was just crazy thinking of pocahontas. That or it was just the fact that they reminded me of indians...

This is what i have been saying since i first saw the trailer...

you can do this for every single movie out there

@anon 11:10: of course you can, since all movies boil down to one of about seven fairy tales. Every "road movie" is "Hansel & Gretel", every sports movie is "Cinderella", etc.

Still very funny tho.

Avatar is Dances With Wolves but with awesome graphics. I don't care if it's not original, it's still a great movie, and IMHO, the best telling of the idea. <3

Yeah well the movie is about imperialism-the obtaining of lands for political, social, or economic gains...it makes sense that it would remind people of Pocahontas because that movie is about the same thing.

Avatar also reminded me of "The Last Samurai". Hmmm... I wonder how a movie would work if we had a white female soldier fall in love with the natives. And she's both a drunk and a crippled from the waist down.

*grin* that is quite funny, I must say! I like your sense of humour and think it does draw a striking parallel between the two movies.

Nonetheless, I do like Avatar for its visual effects.

yep, pochantas to me

Well whatever it is...and if it's a ripoff or similar at the least, it's story has been updated from whatever older sources it came from and introduced a younger generation the story and ethics behind it! so don't bang on it to bad. I'm sure most 16-30 year olds would watch this rather than pocahontas or dances with wolves! INHO!

funny how plagerism is okay as long as you change names...and planets

Course! It's PLAYgiarism!

We're not talking about similarity in theme, e.g. Imperialism. We're talking about taking the plot for one movie, changing the names and dates, tweaking two things, and getting the other movie. Similarity is one thing. Congruence is entirely another...
